A programme aimed at graduates in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, both in Italy and abroad, organised into five levels and eight courses: ranging from basic implantology to the most complex surgical techniques. Each level develops specific skills and paves the way for the next.
How progression works
Start at START. Progress one level at a time.
The AMI training programme in implant surgery is not a series of stand-alone courses. It is a five-level programme comprising eight courses, designed to first consolidate fundamental skills and then tackle procedures, technologies and clinical situations of increasing complexity.
Level 1 · START is the entry point for those who wish to build or strengthen their foundations. Each subsequent stage adds a specific clinical objective and becomes accessible only once the previous one has been completed.
From Level 4 onwards, the programme branches out: the three EXPERT specialisms can be taken in any order, whilst the two DIAMOND courses run in parallel. Once both have been completed, following the three specialisms, you will be awarded the DIAMOND certification.

Each level unlocks the next one.
The AMI implant surgery programme follows a defined sequence. Participants start at Level 1 · START and progress by completing one level at a time. There is no provision for direct access to higher levels, even for those with prior training or professional experience.
The entry point
START is the entry-level programme and is aimed at graduates in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics with no previous experience in implantology. Before enrolment, the professional requirements set out in the information sheet are verified.
Completion of the previous level
START unlocks ADVANCED, ADVANCED unlocks GATE, GATE unlocks the three EXPERT specialities, and the three EXPERT specialities unlock the two DIAMOND courses. AMI internally records the completion of each level and the progression to the next.
GATE qualifies students to perform surgery on cadavers
Passing Level 3 · GATE grants the prerequisite qualification for the programme’s cadaver-based courses. This is why GATE is part of the progression and not at the end of it.
In the EXPERT and DIAMOND tiers, there are no restrictions on the order
The three EXPERT specialisms (4A · 4B · 4C) are standalone modules: they can be taken in any order. The two DIAMOND courses run in parallel and must both be completed to obtain the final certification.
Additional courses and stand-alone masterclasses
The courses published on the Noticeboard are stand-alone training opportunities. Participation in them does not count as completion of a level of the programme, unless AMI explicitly states otherwise.

START
Single implants in native bone and post-extraction sites

The level
The starting point of the course. It enables students to independently place single implants for single-tooth edentulism, in native bone and in post-extraction sites, covering everything from the biological principles of osseointegration through to the basic prosthetic phase. Theory is delivered via the e-learning platform with a dedicated tutor, followed by practical sessions on models and on patients.

Implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation of the completely edentulous arch using the immediate loading protocol: from diagnosis to the delivery of the temporary prosthesis, including digital planning, angled implants and the management of full-arch complications.

Not a course on a specific technique, but a comprehensive immersion in applied surgical anatomy through the dissection of fresh anatomical specimens. Successful completion grants the prerequisite qualification for all cadaver-based courses on the programme.

Two parallel courses bring the programme to a close: the digital workflow in computer-guided implantology, from planning to live surgery, and the management of peri-implant soft tissues using a mucogingival approach. Upon completion of both, following the three EXPERT specialities, the DIAMOND certification is awarded.

The DIAMOND certification is the final stage of the AMI implant surgery programme. It is awarded upon completion of START, ADVANCED, GATE, the three EXPERT specialisms and the two DIAMOND courses.
It is neither an additional course nor a sixth level: it represents the culmination of the entire progression, from basic implantology through to advanced techniques on cadavers, digital workflows and soft tissue management.
Upon completion of the course, AMI awards the qualification in two formats: an AMI Surgical Diamond certificate and a digital badge.

Corso di Perfezionamento Universitario in Implantologia
A 12-CFU university advanced course delivered in a blended format: nine months of online learning, from your own practice and in your own country, followed by a final weekend on campus featuring practical sessions, the final exam and a networking dinner. Taught in Italian and English by lecturers from the AMI implantology courses. The fees and dates will be communicated by the administrative office at the orientation meeting.

The programme is aimed at graduates in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, both in Italy and abroad, who are interested in progressive training in oral surgery and implantology. Any additional eligibility criteria are set out in the Level 1 · START programme description.
Which level do you start on?
From START, Level 1. No previous experience with dental implants is required: the course begins with the biological principles of osseointegration and progresses to the independent placement of single implants.
Can I enrol directly at a higher level?
No. To progress to a level, you must have completed the previous one. The sequence is START, ADVANCED, GATE, the three EXPERT specialisms and, finally, the two DIAMOND courses. Those with proven equivalent clinical experience may ask the administration office to request an assessment by the scientific committee.
Do the three EXPERT specialities have to be taken in order?
No: they are standalone modules, and you can take them in any order you prefer. However, you do need to have completed the GATE preparatory module, as two of the three involve working with anatomical specimens.
Do both DIAMOND courses have to be taken?
Yes, to obtain DIAMOND certification. They run in parallel, so the order in which you take them is flexible, and you can enrol once you have completed the three EXPERT specialities. DIAMOND courses cannot be purchased separately from the programme.
Can I pay for the three EXPERT specialities one at a time and still get the discount?
No. The €6,900 fee for EXPERT COMPLETE — like the €4,500 fee for DIAMOND COMPLETION — applies only if you purchase the entire level straight away. Those who enrol in one course at a time pay €2,500 for each one, with no retrospective discount. Packages must be requested from the administration office and entitle the participant to one enrolment on each course within the level: a certificate of attendance is issued for each course, and a level certificate is awarded upon completion of the level. All fees are payable against a receipt, with no VAT applicable.
What is DIAMOND certification?
This is the final internal accreditation, which is awarded upon completion of all eight courses across the five levels. It is awarded in the form of an AMI Surgical Diamond certificate and a digital badge. It is not a course, a sixth level, a university qualification, a specialisation or a professional qualification.
How does the online platform work?
The theoretical part of each course is delivered via an e-learning platform: step-by-step lessons, progressive modules with videos, handouts and case studies with commentary, with a tutor on hand. An online theory test concludes the distance-learning phase and marks the start of the practical phase.
Are the courses on the Noticeboard part of the five levels?
No. The courses published on the Noticeboard are independent initiatives: taking part in them does not count as having completed a level, unless AMI explicitly states otherwise.
Is there a fee for the whole course?
Yes. Anyone who purchases all eight courses – from START to DIAMOND – in a single payment pays €18,000 instead of the €21,900 charged for courses taken individually. As with the level-based packages, it must be requested from the administration office, and the fee is paid against a receipt, with no VAT applicable.
Does the course also lead to a university qualification?
The DIAMOND certification is an internal qualification awarded by AMI. The university qualification is the University Advanced Course in Implantology: 12 CFU, nine months in a blended learning format, taught in Italian and English, based in Rome and Chieti. It is a standalone course, with enrolment via the university: the fees and dates will be communicated by the administrative office during the orientation meeting.
