The course
From the very first implant, using a systematic approach.
The Basic Course is the entry point to the AMI implant surgery programme: it is Level 1 · START, and requires no prior experience with implants. Upon completion, participants will be able to independently place single implants for single-tooth gaps, in native bone and in post-extraction sites, and to manage the simple prosthetic phase for a single implant.
The course is structured in three consecutive phases: theory via the e-learning platform, with a preparatory test; practical work on models, where the entire surgical sequence is carried out in a controlled environment; and practical work on patients, under the supervision of the course leaders.
Completion of this course is a prerequisite for Level 2 · ADVANCED, which focuses on the rehabilitation of the edentulous arch with immediate loading.

Course structure
- Phase 1 · theory via the e-learning platform, with a theoretical test prior to practical work
- Phase 2 · practical work on models and manikins: the complete surgical sequence in a controlled environment
- Phase 3 · Practical work on patients under supervision: single implants in native bone and post-extraction sites

Theoretical programme
- Module 1 · Fundamentals: surgical anatomy, the biology of osseointegration from Brånemark to the current state of the art, biomaterials and implant surfaces
- Module 2 · Diagnosis and planning: Cone Beam CT, patient selection and risk assessment, criteria for implant selection in native bone
- Module 3 · The post-extraction site: ridge healing, immediate or delayed placement, peri-implant gaps and soft tissue management
- Module 4 · Clinical management: perioperative pharmacology, informed consent, common complications and their management

Practical programme
- On models: drilling and placement in natural bone, immediate post-extraction placement, flaps and basic suturing, impression-taking and the prosthetic phase
- On patients: single implant placement in natural bone and at the post-extraction site, management of clinical phases, collegial case discussions

Why this course
Theory before practice — The e-learning platform provides step-by-step lessons, handouts and case studies with commentary, supported by a dedicated tutor. The online theory test is not a mere formality: it is the step that opens the way to practical training.
Models before patients — The complete surgical sequence is first performed on models and manikins. Those entering the operating theatre have already practised the procedure; they are not learning it for the first time.
The real patient, with the instructors by your side — The third phase involves surgery on a patient under supervision, followed by a collegial discussion of the cases treated.
A level that paves the way for the next — The Basic Course certificate is the entry requirement for Level 2 · ADVANCED. The programme is designed to be progressive: each stage sets the foundation for the next.

Assessment and certification
There are two parts to the assessment: the online theory test concludes the platform-based phase and marks the start of the practical phase; the assessors’ evaluation accompanies the sessions on models and with patients.
Upon completion, AMI issues the BASIC COURSE certificate, which is a prerequisite for Level 2 · ADVANCED.
